Before you remove ProSeries Express Edition from your computer

Before you remove the 2005 ProSeries Express Edition tax product from your computer's hard drive or network server, take note of the following information about your Pay-Per-Return account, your client files, and ProSeries Express Edition directories and files.

Pay-Per-Return account

If you used any ProSeries Express Edition tax products on a Pay-Per-Return basis, you have a Pay-Per-Return account. If you have a remaining balance, print your audit report and fax it to Customer Service before you initiate the uninstall procedure. The uninstall procedure sets the balance of your Pay-Per-Return account to zero.

If you want to restore the amount of that remaining balance to your Pay-Per-Return account, call Customer Service at 1-800-374-7317 to restore the remaining balance to your Pay-Per-Return account.

Product licensing information

When you uninstall all ProSeries Express Edition 2005 tax products, your firm's product licensing information remains on your system. If you subsequently reinstall ProSeries Express Edition 2005 tax software on your system, product licensing does not have to be completed again.

Removing product licensing information. If you want to remove your firm's product licensing information from your system when you uninstall all ProSeries Express Edition 2005 tax products, hold down the CTRL key on the left side of your keyboard during the ProSeries Express Edition 2005 uninstall procedure. If you subsequently reinstall ProSeries Express Edition 2005 tax software on your system, you must complete product licensing again.

Client files

When you remove a ProSeries Express Edition tax product, the client files for that product are not deleted. Be sure to retain your 2005 ProSeries Express Edition client files so the 2006 version of the ProSeries Express Edition program will be able to transfer pertinent data from those 2005 client files to 2006 client files.

Directories and files that aren't deleted

When you remove all ProSeries Express Edition tax products from a stand-alone computer or network drive, all directories and files that can reasonably be deleted are deleted to free up hard disk space. However, some directories-and some files within those directories-are not deleted from the ExpWin05 directory.

Files that are not deleted by the ProSeries Express Edition Uninstall procedure contain important data that you should retain. Much of that data will transfer into next year's ProSeries Express Edition program.

Following is a list of directories and files that typically aren't deleted by the ProSeries Express Edition Uninstall procedure, although some of these directories are deleted if they don't contain any files. (This is not an all-inclusive list of the directories and files that aren't deleted by the Uninstall procedure.)

In addition, the PROPDF directory, the PROPDF\TY2005 sub-directory, and any PDF files within the PROPDF directory that were created by the ProSeries Express Edition program are not deleted.

Important:
We strongly recommend that you do not delete files that were not deleted by the ProSeries Express Edition Uninstall procedure.
Files in the 05DATA directory. Be sure to retain the files in the 05DATA directory so next year's ProSeries Express Edition program will be able to transfer the client data from your ProSeries Express Edition 2005 client files into ProSeries Express Edition 2006 client files.
Files in the COMMON directory. Be sure to retain the files in the COMMON directory so next year's ProSeries Express Edition program will be able to transfer your 2005 preparer and billing information into the ProSeries Express Edition 2006 program.

Files remaining in a directory. If you go to Windows Explorer and review the files in a directory that wasn't deleted, you might find that the directory contains only a few files. Many or most of the files that were previously contained in that directory might have been deleted.
