For information on which local and other taxes are supported by QuickBooks and how QuickBooks supports each tax, click the state of interest below. All information is effective January 1, 2018 unless otherwise noted.

Indiana Counties Tax

Variable rate by county

This rate is entered on the “Other tab” on the employee's record in QuickBooks. Enter “C”, then the adopting county code. For county code listings, refer to Departmental Notice #1, published by the Indiana Department of Revenue.

County subject to withholding

Select the county associated with the county tax rate entered for an employee.

QuickBooks uses the county name on the Local Tax Summary report to provide a county-by-county breakdown of wages paid and taxes withheld. You can use this report to assist you in preparing the Breakdown Indiana County Tax Withheld section on the WH-1 and WH-3 tax forms. To run the Local Tax Summary report, choose Reports from the QuickBooks menu bar and then choose Employees & Payroll > More Payroll Reports in Excel > Local Tax Summary.

Maryland County Tax

Variable Rate by county

This rate is entered on the “State” tab on the employee's record as a percent.

County Percent Rate

Enter the rate for the county in which the employee lives. (Note: If the employee works in Delaware but lives in Maryland, use the Delaware rate.) Enter this rate as a percentage. Selecting "Exempt (state and county)" as the filing status will override this setting.

Cities Work Tax Rate and Cities Resident Tax Rate

Variable Rate by city

This rate is entered on the “Other” tab on the employee's record as a percent. Check with your local tax board for the rate limit on this tax.

Enter the name to use for this city's tax on Form W-2. It will print in the "Locality name" box.

Annual Exemption

This amount is entered on the “Other” tab on the employee's record as a dollar amount. Enter the annual dollar amount for the allowance exemption based on the information provided by the employee on their city W-4.

Note: In some cases, the per exemption dollar amount is provided in the specific city Employer's Withholding Guide instead of on the city W-4 form. Click here to access the Michigan Department of Treasury website that provides links to the specific city tax information.

Variable by School District

Enter this rate on the "Other" tab on the employee's record as a percent. Also enter the four-digit code issued for the school district and as much of the name of the district the field allows. Always enter the numbers first. For example - enter "7501" and then fill in as much of the name of the school district as the field allows. The code will then print in the "Locality name" box on the W-2.
