Form 943: Employer's Annual Federal Tax Return for Agricultural Employees
Question

Answer

Should I file Form 941, 944, or 943?

Companies who employ agricultural workers must report Social Security and Medicare taxes and federal income tax withheld on Form 943, Employer's Annual Tax Return for Agricultural Employees. If the tax liability is deposited semiweekly, the 943 filer is required to list the liability amounts on Form 943-A.

QuickBooks includes an Excel workbook that contains worksheets designed to collect and organize data required in Form 943. The 943 worksheet shows totals for taxable wages and the tax amounts for federal income tax withholding, Social Security, and Medicare. It also shows the total for advance earned income payments. You can summarize the 943 data in Excel and use the information to file Form 943 with the IRS.

Customers who have a Standard or Enhanced Payroll subscription can prepare and file Form 943 in QuickBooks.

The IRS will notify you which form you should file. If you're not sure which form you should file, contact the IRS.

Can I e-file Form 943?

No. At this time, you cannot e-file Form 943 from QuickBooks.

Do I need to fill out a Form 943-A?

You must file Form 943-A: Annual Record of Federal Tax Liability and file it with Form 943 if you are a semiweekly depositor or if your tax liability on any day during the calendar year is $100,000 or more.

Form 943-A lists the tax liability accrued on each day of the calendar year. The total tax liability must match Line 11 on Form 943.
